The International Pacific Halibut Commission (IPHC) is pleased to announce the call for applications to our Merit Scholarship for the year 2026. The IPHC aims to support the educational pursuits of students associated with the Pacific halibut industry.

The IPHC Merit Scholarship offers financial assistance to students pursuing higher education at universities, technical colleges, or other post-secondary institutions, and who have direct links with the Pacific halibut industry in either Canada or the USA.

Key details of the scholarship program:

  • Value: Each scholarship is valued at US$4000 per year, renewable for up to four years - contingent upon the maintenance of satisfactory academic performance.
  • Eligibility Criteria: Eligible candidates should demonstrate academic excellence, and a strong commitment to the future support of the Pacific halibut industry.
  • Application Process: Interested candidates are required to submit a comprehensive application package, including academic transcripts, a statement of career goals, three letters of recommendation, and any other relevant documents as outlined in the application guidelines.
  • Selection Process: A selection panel comprised of Pacific halibut industry representatives, and  from the IPHC  will review applications based on the eligibility criteria and application materials.
  • Deadline: The deadline for submitting applications for the 2026 scholarship cycle is 12 June 2026
